This month, we celebrate a man whose resilience, passion, and dedication to the medical profession set an inspiring standard for young and aspiring doctors — Dr. Shehu Sani Ambursa (MBBS).
Dr. Ambursa’s journey into the world of medicine is one of bold decisions and relentless pursuit of purpose. Starting out as a veterinary student at Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital (UDUTH), he made a life-changing choice at 200 level — to follow his true calling: becoming a medical doctor.
In 2015, that dream took him across continents to Shenyang Medical College in China, where he embraced a new culture, language, and an entirely different academic landscape. Despite the challenges, he adapted quickly, distinguishing himself through hard work, discipline, and excellence. In July 2021, he graduated with an MBBS degree, alongside a certificate in Chinese language proficiency — a true testament to his determination and ability to thrive beyond borders.
Returning home to Nigeria, Dr. Ambursa wasted no time in fulfilling his patriotic duty. In November 2021, he passed the MDCN exams and began his housemanship at FMC Birnin Kebbi, where he served with diligence and compassion. He then continued to serve during his NYSC at Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin, contributing to medical care and academic growth within the institution.
Currently, Dr. Ambursa is pursuing specialization as an Orthopedic Resident Doctor at the National Orthopedic Hospital, Dala, Kano, where his commitment to excellence continues to shine through. His story is a powerful reminder that with vision, courage, and persistence, dreams are not only valid — they are achievable.
