Dr. Monica Anurika Gbuchie is a dynamic physician, public health researcher, and nonprofit leader with interests in women’s and reproductive health, HIV research, maternal and child health, and digital health innovation for community-centered impact. She is passionate about creating equitable access to quality healthcare, particularly in resource-limited settings.
A graduate of the Niger Delta University College of Health Sciences, Dr. Gbuchie is currently pursuing her Master of Public Health (MPH) at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, with a concentration in Women’s and Reproductive Health and a Maternal and Child Health Certification. She applies her clinical background and public health training to bridge research, policy, and practice in ways that strengthen health systems and improve outcomes.
Beyond academics, she co-founded the Act4Her Health Initiative (A4HI), a nonprofit advancing sexual and reproductive health and rights and expanding healthcare access for women and young people in resource-limited settings.
She also serves as a pioneer National Health Fellow under the Nigeria Health Sector Renewal Investment Initiative (SWAp Coordination Office) within the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare (FMoHSW), where she contributes to strengthening primary healthcare delivery and promoting data-driven health interventions at the local level.
Dr. Gbuchie’s impact and leadership have been recognized globally. She is the first-ever recipient of the prestigious Tokunbo and Dapo Williams Foundation MPH Scholarship at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, a full scholarship awarded for exceptional academic merit and outstanding public health leadership. She was named a 2025 Paul Dudley White International Scholar by the American Heart Association for her community-focused research on hypertension treatment and control, and a Top 10 Finalist in the 2025 INSPIRE Designathon for her EqualCare digital health innovation advancing disability-inclusive care for adolescents and young adults living with HIV (AYA LHIV). She was also a 2024 International AIDS Society Scholarship Awardee, which supported her participation and research presentation at the 25th International AIDS Conference in Munich, Germany.
Outside her professional life, she enjoys Afrobeats music, reading African fiction, fangirling over Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, and spending quality time with loved ones.
